I heard about Dragos, and I was intrigued with the famously known charbroiled oysters.  Wesley and I made reservations, hopped in a taxi and headed to Dragos.  We went to the original location (in Matairie) that is definitely not walking distance from the Quarter, but an easy taxi ride.  There is a 2nd Dragos in the Hilton Riverside on Poydras, but we were told, go for the original, so we did.

I absolutely loved it.  I LOVE charbroiled oysters!   The Loon wasn’t as big of a fan of them, but I thought they were incredible.  And by the line at the door, and all that we had heard about them previously, I’m pretty sure a lot of people love them, too.

I followed our grilled oysters with an amazing dish called Herradura Shrimp which was gulf shrimp sauteed with sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts and onions, deglazed with tequila and seasoned to perfection.  Served with a huge grilled portabella mushroom.

Wesley had the Gulf Shrimps with Tasso, sauteed gently in a house secret sauce.  Served on a bed of lovely grits and topped with rosemary.

Dragos isn’t super fancy.  It’s family friendly.  And it’s gulf seafood cuisine at it’s best.  It’s no wonder why it is continuously chosen as the area’s #1 seafood restaurant.
